  • Our GoFundMe campaign is live

Our My Period Data Is Mine! GoFundMe campaign is now live and we are ready to receive your support to get the most secure period tracker to your phones.

Data privacy is important to me – especially personal data like menstruation data. My research has shown that existing period trackers store your data in the cloud which opens it up to being made available for “legal” reasons – without your consent. Additionally, existing period trackers don’t encrypt at the database level which makes it easy to hack into the app once the phone is handed over to authorities.

This is a problem especially given the incoming US government and other extreme governments.

You and every person who menstruates deserves a period tracker that keeps your period data private. The period tracker will keep your data on your phone and on your phone only. The data itself will be encrypted with a user defined password, so even if someone has physical access to your phone, they cannot access your data without your consent. The data will never be sent to the cloud. The data will never be shared with third-parties whoever they may be. The data cannot be made available, because we don’t have access to it either. Only you have access.

Your donations will be used to focus on the project full time and get it finished and onto your phones in the shortest possible time frame.

Would you consider supporting our project?

  • Your data is now encrypted🔐

After a lot of effort and numerous hours, we can now share that the database for our MyPeriodDataIsMine! period tracker is encrypted and requires a password. 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

Next up, we’ll put the interface together to show off the initial feature set for the first release which is scheduled for late summer / early autumn. In any case, you’ll be able to download it prior to the USA presidential elections.

Why is this a big deal?

It’s a big deal because your data is encrypted and stays on your phone and only you can unlock it with your password.

That means nobody can steal it, intercept it or sell your data to God knows who. Even if law enforcement asked us for your data, we cannot hand it over because we don’t have it. Nobody has your data. Only you have your data!

Currently, period trackers send your data into the cloud. You don’t know where to or who to. Your data could end up in all sorts of places or with all sorts of organisations. That means if law enforcement asks for it, your data will be handed over and you may end up in prison.

The MyPeriodDataIsMine! period data is safe, because the encrypted data is only on your phone and nowhere else and you can only open it with the password you set yourself.

How would you like to make a difference today?

You can join us as volunteer and share your skills with us, become a regular member on Patreon or a one-off donor via our Stripe collaboration.

  • My Period Data Is Mine!

Your personal data should be yours and yours only; especially if it as personal as your period data.

I wouldn’t want my boss to know when I menstruate, just as I wouldn’t want to know when my neighbours have their periods. Each individual should own that information and control who they share it with and when.

The current problem we are facing is that this information – when synced with the cloud, whether it’s encrypted or not – is no longer within our control and therefore it’s no longer private. This information can be, and is being used against us. If your period is late, some authorities may – and do – ask themselves whether you had an illegal abortion.

We urgently need to regain control over our period data.

My Period Data Is Mine! – Project goals

    1. Data remains on your phone

We need your help to build a period tracker which keeps your data on your phone and on your phone only – no transfers into the cloud; no handing over your data for “legal” reasons; no pseudo-anonymous handling of your data for unknown analysis; and no ads or other third parties tracking your app usage.

    2. Local encryption

The data on your phone must be encrypted so that even if someone has your phone in their hands, they won’t be able to access your data unless you give them your My period data is mine! password. Law enforcement won’t be able to use backdoors to “legally” access your data unless you give them permission.

Your donations will pay for encryption experts who don’t come cheap.

    3. User design and translations

To make this app available to the widest audience possible, your donations will also pay for professional user design and translations. We want everyone to feel that the app is easy to use and remember to use it every day.

In addition to the above, we welcome input and feedback from potential users to ensure we build what you want and need!

My Period Data Is Mine! – Project plan

Our “My Period Data Is Mine!” period tracker app is Free and Open Source, so please volunteer on GitHub as much time as you can to help with programming, user design or whatever your area of expertise – because together, we can make the best and most secure period tracker for us all.

If you don’t have time, please donate to our “My Period Data Is Mine!” period tracker, because the app will be free to download and use for everyone; forever.

Once your donations reach the funding goal, we will start immediately with setting up the team and get to work.

Our plan groups activities into 4 categories. Each activity should take us approximately 2 months to complete. In total, development should take 6 months and you will be able to use the period tracker before the start of summer 2023.

    • Encrypted version: 2 months
We will start by encrypting the database and add password protection. Safety first as they say 🙂
    • Basic version: 4 months
This version keeps the data on the phone and fully functions. It has daily entry, a monthly report view and password login.
    • Advanced version: 6 months
This version contains all of the above and also a full health organizer (contacts, alerts, information updates).
We will be seeking user input to ensure the app delivers what people actually need.
    • OMG version: developed in parallel
This version will include professional look & feel to make it easy to use.

Your donations will help make this app reality and keep people like you, like me and like your children safe. Your help makes this world better for everyone.

    Thank you!
